FALL 2009 SERIES • HERMANO • Industry of the Ordinary

Happy C and Industry of the Ordinary would like you to join us for our final, celebratory instalment of HERMANO!

Knees up Mother Brown!
Knees up Mother Brown!
Under the table you must go
Ee-i-ee-i-ee-i-oh!
If I catch you bending,
I'll saw your legs right off,
Knees up! Knees Up!
Don't get the breeze up,
Knees up Mother Brown!
Oh My! What a rotten song!
What a rotten song!
Oh, What a rotten song!
Oh My! What a rotten song!
What a rotten singer too!

In Public Houses, private homes and Working Men’s Clubs across England a customary tradition for the celebration of Monumental Events and Great Festivals has been to relieve oneself of responsibility and inhibition and organize a "Knees Up".

In this tradition Industry of the Ordinary invite you and your loved ones to their 2009 Xmas Knees Up.

Traditional British food, drink, music, dancing. games and visuals will be served, and the first one hundred guests will receive a commemorative drinking vessel to use and cherish.

Friday the 18th of December 2009, 8pm until all the Guinness runs out (at which point we'll have a whip round), at the Happy Collaborationists exhibition space, 1254 N. Noble, Chicago, 60642

EXISTENCE VALUE / HERMANO

EXISTENCE VALUE • HAPPY COLLABORATIONIST • FALL 2009 SERIES • HERMANO

Join us for the third installment of our Fall series HERMANO. This time around we are happy to Scott and Paul Cowan with EXISTENCE VALUE, on Saturday November 14.

EXISTENCE VALUE

We have options, an infinite amount of them, which we must see as wide-open variables to use or to deny. Every decision made is made with intention. It isn’t about being ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, but rather the sequence of events and how they add up.

The more reduced something is and the more minimal its expression, then the more malleable it is to having meanings applied. It is a challenge to attempt to communicate in a realm where a rhetoric language has precedent over all others. Our perception is keen and desires to become more acute in that manner. In logic this is good, but in alternative scenarios additional variables occur.

At what point can something like faith be accomplished? It is never knowing, but only trusting, and letting the self become something -constantly. What is often meant when people use the word ‘faith’ is faith in the adulterated sense – something one needs ‘in order to renounce everything’. When in reality, faith itself presupposes that one has renounced everything.

In EXISTENCE VALUE, a gesture precedes all considerations and assumptions, rendering immediate perception obtuse. We consider these objects objects, losing all subjectivity; questioning the role of the object (real or imaginary) and the artist’s desire to create and be present in the work.

Our Backyard

Hi All,

I recently received word from friends and artists Karen Bovinich and Michelle Ishikawa who are running an outdoor space for the summer (and possibly on). They say they are emailing artists/designers/friends/humans to let them know. (so if you meet these qualifications and are interested let me know and I will put you in touch with them)

Located in the backyard (go figure!) at 2431 W. Cortez, Chicago, IL

Maybe you are interested in proposing an idea for a show in Our Backyard.
Maybe you are interested in coming to our upcoming shows.
Maybe you have a friend who wants to show work.

Either way, spread the word. Contact them at

the.backyard.folks@gmail.com

First show is with Chicago artist, Jesus Mejia. Installation. Saturday, June 6th, 2009 7:00pm -Not to be missed!

Technically its the first time a Happy Collaborator has show at the Happy Collaborationists exhibition space (ok sure Emanuel had work there BEFORE he joined us but don't spoil my fun!) so don't miss it, it will be spectacular.

Global Print

Vincent Finazzo, friend of the Happy Collaborationists and rather nifty fellow, has put together a show for the Southern Graphics Counsel titled Global Print. The Happy Collaborationists will be there and magazines will be available!

"Global Print examines globalization and its effects on everyone. Artist
exhibit works of all media that address globalization, cultural destruction
and rebirth, and the phenomenon of cross-cultural and global information
exchange. The work pushes the boundaries of print processes, explores
new techniques, and encourages the viewer to think of art in a global manner."
~Vincent Finazzo

Please join us March 27th From 6-9pm At 623 S. Wabash, First Floor Hokin gallery.

Happy C will be there and so should you!

!Submissions Deadline!

Hello everyone, as I'm sure most of you know our next issue (the April issue) is on sketchbooks, journals and plans.... if you have something brilliant scribbled on a napkin we'll print it! We are moving up our print date on this issue to be apart Vincent Finazzo's show at the Southern Graphics Counsel, so we need all submissions by next Monday! That is Monday Feb. 23rd! So go scan so pages and send them my way, I mean right now, go do it while you are thinking about it!

All images need to be at least 300mp for high resolution printing, most scanners will just do this anyway and you don’t have to think about it but if you have any questions on this front, or on any other front just let me know and I will be more then happy to help where I can. Also if you would rather just give us a sketchbook and have us deal with getting it in digital format we do that too! Just drop me a line (517-281-3530) or send me an e-mail and we can meet up.
